The data warehouse is becoming an application server

The warehouse used to be the place data went to be analyzed after the fact. Increasingly it's where applications run — logic, serving, and even user-facing features built directly on the same store that holds the analytics.

The wall between the analytical and operational planes is coming down.

Signal: if you sell anything that moves data out of the warehouse to make it usable, the warehouse may be absorbing your category.
