Credentials are unbundling from institutions

The bundle of education, signaling, and credential is coming apart. As employers get better at assessing demonstrated capability directly — through work samples and verified skills — the institutional certificate loses some of its monopoly on signaling.

The learning and the proof of learning no longer have to come from the same place.
