Compliance becomes continuous, not periodic

Compliance becomes continuous, not periodic

Today: most compliance runs in batches — periodic reviews, sampling, after-the-fact reporting.

The next five years: monitoring goes continuous. Every transaction and communication is screened in real time, with exceptions surfaced as they happen rather than discovered in an audit. Regulators, themselves adopting these tools, will increasingly assume firms can do the same.

The AI relation: the volume of activity makes human-only review impossible; models do the first-pass screening across everything, escalating only genuine risk to compliance officers.

Signal: "point-in-time" compliance is becoming a liability. The firms that win audits will be the ones that never stopped watching.
